By the 90-meter mark, Noah Lyles was still behind his competitor Thompson.

After becoming the winner, Lyles said, I went to Thompson after the race and told him that I thought he had won the race. But when I saw my name on the leaderboard, I said wow! I won this race against the best players.
Professional Debut:
In 2016, Lyles turned professional, forgoing college athletics. He signed with Adidas and began training with the PURE Athletics group in Clermont, Florida, under the guidance of coach Lance Brauman.

In 2019, Lyles further cemented his status by winning the gold medal in the 200 meters at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, with a time of 19.83 seconds. He also earned a bronze medal as part of the 4x100 meters relay team.
Olympic Trials and Tokyo 2020:
At the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2021, Lyles qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the 200 meters by winning the event with a time of 19.74 seconds. At the Tokyo Olympics, Lyles won a bronze medal in the 200 meters, clocking 19.74 seconds, and helped the U.S. 4x100 meters relay team finish in sixth place.
